Kennet District is situated in West Berkshire and supports Scouting for young people aged 6 to 25 in Newbury; Hungerford; Inkpen & Kintbury; Lambourn; Wash Common; and the surrounding area.

This website is dedicated to the Explorer Scout section for 14 to 18 year olds and this operates in units.

There are three such units in Kennet District

Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit based in Hungerford (& Inkpen/Kintbury)
Pegasus Explorer Scout Unit based in Newbury
Griffin Young Leader Unit

(Dragon Explorer Scout Unit is currently a sub unit of Phoenix ESU and operates out of Inkpen & Kintbury, but we plan to split them in early 2011)

We hope to open additional Unit(s) in 2011

Scouting for 18 to 25 men and women is based in the Scout Network which we hope to operate in West Berkshire, working with adjacent districts.

Adults in Kennet

There are many opportunities for adults to enjoy and support Scouting. Working directly with young people in the Sections includes being a Leader; an Assistant Leader; Colony, Pack or Troop Assistant and so on.

The are also opportunities to help at Group level and in the District in 'management' roles. Tasks at these levels include finance; administration; fund-raising; taking care of equipment; and so on.

Adults in Scouting have fun and are well supported with training and through District and County programme teams.
